J .A. Oudemans, 1892 Keeper of the combined museums of the Zool. Garden and<br />
of the Univ. of Amsterdam, Since 1902, when he abandoned his functions, he<br />
devoted himself entirely to entomology. He inherited the estate "Schovenhorst"<br />
from his father-in-law. During many years President of the <strong>Dutch</strong> Entom,<br />
Soc. He was one of the founders of the <strong>Dutch</strong> Soc. for the Protection of<br />
Nature. He is the author of "De Nederlandsche Insecten" (1900).<br />
Oudemans possessed a standard collection of <strong>Dutch</strong> insects (some 75,000 Lepidoptera,<br />
Hymenoptera and Ichneumonidae) in 550 drawers. After his death this<br />
collection came in the Zool. Mus. Amsterdam. Van der Wulp 1895, p. SO, 89;<br />
