(buried 31 Dec.). Lawyer. Son of Ernst Roeters Sr. (1581-1648) and brother<br />

of Ernst Jr. (q.v. ). Lived at Amsterdam, Keizersgracht, later on Fluwelenburgwal.<br />

"Commissaris voor de kleine zaken", Secretary of Amsterdam.<br />

He possessed a garden outside the town, with several living animals and rare<br />

David Leeuw van Lennep, 17 Nov. 1696 - 27 April 1750, married 1733 with Perina<br />

Roeters at 's-Gravenhage. The descendants took the name Roeters van<br />

Lennep.<br />

1275. ROETERS VAN LENNEP, Herman Christiaan - 20 Dec. 1820 Amsterdam - 15<br />

Aug. 1879 Twello, near Deventer (House "De Parkeler"). Lawyer. Merchant at<br />

Amsterdam (fa. van Lennep & Co.) till 1862.<br />

Possessed a precious collection of shells. In a meeting of the editional<br />

committee in charge of the "Bijdragen tot de Dierkunde" nr. 22, 1852, Mr.<br />

Roeters van Lennep showed a specimen of Delphinula arion (Meuschen), once<br />

part of the famous cabinet of Seba. It is not known whence Roeters van Lennep<br />

had obtained it or where it has gone to (Jutting 1939, p. 169). During<br />

his life he presented many shells to the Zool. Mus., Amsterdam, and after<br />

his death the Musewn bought several important and rare shells from his heritage<br />

(Jutting 1950, p. 139). His collection was sold by auction at Twello<br />

18 July 1876, Several species were bought by "Artis", among them a few rare<br />

and unique ones. Other buyers were Y. Keyzer ( q, v.) and M. M. Schepman<br />

(q.v.). His library was sold 27-28 Nov. 1876. A second sale of shells took<br />

place 13 Jan. 1879: "Catalogus van Horens en Schelpen ••• ". A Ms. catalogue<br />

was presented in 1885 by his heirs to the Society "Natura Artis Magistra".<br />

He published a "Catalogue alphabetique des cones" in 1876. Jutting 1939, p.<br />
