1259. REYNST, Gerrit - 1599 - 29 June 1658 Amsterdam. "Heer" (Lord) of
Niel. Merchant; member of the "Vroedschap" (Town-council) of Amsterdam,
1646-1658. Son of Governor-General Gerrit Reynst (died 1615 Java). Lived at
the Keizersgracht, East Side, North of the Hartenstraat.
Possessed a cabinet: " ••• Uytheemsch vergezogte kostelijkheijdt, geschat
deze vreemde rariteijten wel op drie tonnen gouts", cf. M, Fokkens, Beschr.

zoological garden on the "Grebbeberg" ("Ouwehands Dierenpark"). Among the
attractions are a zool. park, aquarium, dolphin show, terrarium and freeair

's-Gravenhage. 1810 "Stadsheelmeester" (town-physician) at 's-Gravenhage;
1812 Prof. an at., physiol. and obstetrics; 1814 "consulent-chirurgij n des
Konings" (Consultant surgeon of the King); 1819 Councillor. Bleuland (q.v,)
taught him preparation-techniques.
Cabinet of anatomy. His collection was bought by the King Willam I during
his life, later presented to the University of Groningen. P. de Riemer 1831:

"Helmond" - 1871 Utrecht. "Agent de la Banque", Member of the Mint-college,
Inspector-Essayer-General.
The existence of his collection of fossils is only known because of its description
by Bosquet. He also possessed a collection of fresh water shells
from S.-Limburg and France, and tropical shells. This shell collection came
into the possession of his son, B.W.F. van Riemsdijk (q.v.) who presented it
