During a journey in the Moluccas (1855) he succeeded in gathering an important<br />

collection of animals. The collection was presented in 1930 to the<br />

Zool. Mus. Amsterdam by a son of his foster-daughter (Ms. Cat. in "Artis").<br />

DIJCK, Franciscus Wilhelrnus van - 8 Febr. 1839 Diessen - 3 June 1878 Sint­<br />

Both brothers were bird-preparator. They possessed a collection of stuffed<br />

birds (ca. 2,000 specimens), collected between 1850 and 1880. In 1934 and<br />

1935 this collection was bequeathed by Father A.J.M. van Dijck to the seminary<br />

"Beekvliet" at Sint-Michielsgestel (q.v). It was heavily damaged in<br />

1945, but afterwards partly restored. As Beekvliet had to be shut in 1972,<br />

the collection was sold partly to the Municipalty of Einill1oven (q.v.) (ca.<br />

550 stuffed birds among which 227 <strong>Dutch</strong> specimens) and partly to the Natural<br />

History Museum at Haas tricht (q. v.) (a.o. butterflies, fossils and shells).<br />

Already before World War II he possessed a collection of Macrolepidoptera,<br />

that was lost during that war. In 1952 he started an inventory of Lepidoptera<br />

of Friesland, together with collectors from that province. The collection<br />
