1851). Despite a great many troubles the Commission has performed an enormous<br />

amount of work and the RMNH attained world level. The results were laid<br />

down in the "Verhandelingen over de natuurlijke geschiedenis der Nederlandsche<br />

Overzeesche bezittingen door leden der Natuurkundige Commissie en andere<br />

schrijvers, uitgegeven op last van den Koning, door C.J. Temminck" (3<br />

vols., 1839-184 7). The volumes deal with botany (by P. W. Korthals); zoology<br />

(by S. MUller and H. Schlegel); and ethonology (by S. MUller a.o.). TI1e geological<br />

collections came in the "Rijksmuseum van Geologie en Mineralogie"<br />

at Leiden, the botanical collections in the State Herbarium, the zoological<br />

1084. NEERVOORT VAN DE POLL, Jacob R.H. - 1862 - 1925. During a long time<br />

he lived at "Beukestein" near Rijzenburg-Driebergen.<br />

He bought many collections of Coleoptera in Holland and abroad and had his<br />

collectors in the tropics. He sold his collection 1908-1914 via O.E. Janson<br />

(London), and so it became dispersed, particularly in France and England.<br />

See Horn & Kahle 1935-'37, p. 211-213. He took part in an expedition to the<br />

<strong>Dutch</strong> West Indies with Suringar and Martin, and presented all animals, collected<br />

during this expedition, to the RMNH. He enriched the entomological.<br />

collection of this museum with many rare spec.imens (Cetonidae, Buprestidae,<br />
