Paludanus has become famous by his very precious collection of natural history,<br />

ethnographies, products of art and also of rarities. Testament Not.<br />

Codde 9 July 1628. The catalogue, written by himself, still exists. In 1651<br />

the collection was bought by Count Frederik III of Schleswig-Holstein, who<br />

incoporated it in his "Gottorpische Kunstkammer", which in 1759 was transferred<br />

to Copenhagen; about this collection: Die Bodenfahrt von Herzog Friedrich<br />

von Wurtemberg (Tubingen 1604, p. 43-45). Count Philipp Ludwig II of<br />

Hanau-Manzenberg (1576-1612) with his brother Albrecht (1579-1636), as wardens<br />

of Count Jan the Elder of Nassau (1535-1606), Stadholder of Gelderland,<br />

travelled in the Netherlands (1593-1594) and visited Paludanus in Enkhuizen.<br />

The itinerary, in Ms., is preserved in Marburg a.d. Lahn (Hessisches Staatarchiv,<br />

Bestand 81, Hanau Regierung A 47, nr. 6, 5), The 17 years old Count<br />

Philipp enumerates arbitrarily the curiosities showed to him (Paludanus celebris<br />

part of it had been sold in 1651 to Duke Frederik III of Schleswig-Holstein<br />

preface, p. 5); Jacobaeus 1910, p. 77 (v. Enkhuizen 1671+, remembers Paludanus).<br />

Paludanus compiled the annotations on Indian natural products in Linschoten'<br />

s "Itinerario" ( 1596), cf. F. W. T. Hunger 1943 on Paludanus, as an<br />
