1389. SCHLJNVOET, Simon - 1652 1 s-Gravenhage - 24 Aug. 1727 Amsterdam. "Onderschout,<br />

Hoofdprovoost, Geheimschrijver van het Aalmoezeniersweeshuis". He<br />

lived at the Kerkstraat, between the Spiegelstraat and the Vijzelstraat, in<br />

the house " 1 t Springend F'onteyn", He was a good engraver and garden-architeet.<br />

He possessed rich collections of antiquities, coins and natural history. He<br />

edited the "Rar:l.teitkamer" of Rumph ius 1705, obtaining animals from other<br />

amateurs to complete the missing pictures. Uffenbach 1754, III, p. 668 (v.<br />

1710); Pekarskij 1862 ( Schijnvoet 1 s museum was visited by Czar Peter, and<br />

Schijnvoet had many connections vlith the Russian resident Christoffel van<br />

Brants). His cabinet passed to his son-in-law Vincent Posthumus (q.v.), who<br />

in 1744 offered it for sale in two catalogues, mentioning that it originally<br />

came from his father-in-law Schijnvoet. The catalogue of shells is quoted by<br />

Boehmer 1785, I, p. 394 and Vosmaer 1790; the one on fossils, stones and minerals<br />
