1944 Semarang. Businessman. in 1910 he retired from business.<br />

In 1892 he visited Java, where he made extensive zoological collections,<br />

some of them came in "Artis", some in RMNH. In 1908 he was the first scientist<br />

who studied the fauna of the Island of Krakatoa after the eruption of<br />

1883. In 1913, together with W.C. van Heurn (q.v.) he made large zoological<br />

and ethnological collections on the is land of Simaloer, for the museum at<br />

Leiden. From 1913 till 1920 he made numerous expeditions into the interior<br />

of Sumatra, the collections came in the museums at Leiden and Amsterdam. De<br />
