1944 Semarang. Businessman. in 1910 he retired from business.
In 1892 he visited Java, where he made extensive zoological collections,
some of them came in "Artis", some in RMNH. In 1908 he was the first scientist
who studied the fauna of the Island of Krakatoa after the eruption of
1883. In 1913, together with W.C. van Heurn (q.v.) he made large zoological
and ethnological collections on the is land of Simaloer, for the museum at
Leiden. From 1913 till 1920 he made numerous expeditions into the interior
of Sumatra, the collections came in the museums at Leiden and Amsterdam. De
