Mining engineer. Director of the "Rijksopsporingsdiens van Delfstoffen"<br />

since 1915; Director of the "Rijksgeologische Dienst" till 1946. During his<br />

stratigraphic research he often used mollusc fauna's to solve problems on<br />

geological chronology. He also studied tertiary molluscs of the <strong>Dutch</strong> East<br />

Indies and pliocene molluscs from Timor. He possessed a collection of Coleoptera<br />

(Cicindelidae, Carabidae, Haliplidae, Dytiscidae and Gyrinidae). The<br />

collection (2,600 specimens, of which 440 <strong>Dutch</strong> species and varieties) was<br />

sold for Dfl. 100.-- (Entom. Ber. III, 1910, p. 81). Everts 1922, p. XII;<br />
