Gravenhage. 1735 Town physician at 's-Gravenhage. In 1750 he asked the municipality<br />

of 's-Gravenhage to be allowed to bear the title of Professor botanicus,<br />

which was granted. He got a grant of Dfl. 500.-- a year to keep his<br />

garden in order and to give free lessons for the public. His house "Zandvliet"<br />

was bought in 1785 by the dowager of Baron du Tour (q.v.): Anna Catharina<br />

Rumpf (see R.A.J. Grabandt, in: Leids Jaarboekje 1969, p. 149),<br />

He possessed a collection of divers animals. Murray 1904 mentions an Index<br />

Musaei Schwenkeniani 1785 by Meuschen, Grimm 1775, p. 289-290 (v, 1774, cabinet<br />

of divers animals and a garden); Forster 1843, p. 90 (v. 1778); Ehrhart<br />

1783, p. 238 (v. 1782, "liest in seinem Garten den hiesigen Apothekern<br />

ein Collegium"). Easter (Natuurkundige Uitsp. 1765, II(2), p, 58) got a<br />

freshwater Medusa from Schwencke, His library was sold 26 Sept. 1785 (Boekh.<br />

nr. 490), and contains p. 139 a microscope of Leeuwenhoek. Vosmaer 1790<br />
