Brown 1682, p. 4 (v. 1668: lions, leopards). Witkamp 1872, p. VIII<br />

repeats this; Dethmar 1838-1841, p. 127: mentions a piece of wood with shipworms,<br />

shown in the "Beurs" (Exchange).<br />

The Anatomy-Hall contained anatomical collections: see De Bils 1659: Aan alle<br />

School like other towns (Terwen 1855, p. 268). In the sixties of the<br />

20th century the Erasmus University was founded.<br />

The druggist-guild also possessed all sorts of natural curiosities (Cohen<br />

19.30, in: Pharmaceutisch Weekblad nr. 5, p. 94).<br />

The "Bataafsch Genootschap voor de Proefondervindelijke Wijsbegeerte", founded<br />

in 1771 by Steven Hoogendijk, issued "Verhandelingen" since 1774 (Vrolik,<br />
