He possessed a most valuable conchological cabinet, collected during his various<br />

voyages to the East and West Indies. The greater part was sold in 1900<br />

by Sowerby, cf. G.B. Sowerby 1900: Catalogue de la collection de coquilles,<br />

livres conchyliologiques, armoires renfermant la collections ••• delaissee<br />

par le Vice Admiral P.A. van Rees, LaHaye 1900 (cf. J. Conch. XVI, 1921, p.<br />

214), The catalogue is in the possession of Mrs. M. Payne Best-van Rees, his<br />

granddaughter. He also possessed several rare specimens and, i.a., a Conus<br />

gloria maris (Jutting 1938, in: Basteria II, p. 11-15). He exchanged on several<br />

occasions with "Artis" and besides with J.S. Semmelinck (q.v.). Healso<br />

bought shells at the auction of Mrs. Rethaan Macare (q.v.), 6 Aug. 1888<br />
