1798-1820. With C.G.C. Reinwardt (q.v.) he had the supervision of the<br />

menagerie in the Hortus medicus (see Louis Napoleon).<br />

He possessed an anatomical cabinet, that after his death came in the possession<br />

of his son Willem Vrolik (q.v.), cf. J.L. Dusseau 1865: Musee Vrolik.<br />

1644. VROLIK, Will em - 29 April 1801 Amsterdam - 22 Dec. 1863 Amsterdam.<br />

Son of Gerardus Vrolik (q.v.). Physician at Amsterdam; 1826 town physician;<br />

1829 Prof. anat. Groningen; 1831 Prof. anat. and medicine Amsterdam. Vrolik<br />

did much for "Artis".<br />

Together with his father he founded the Museum Vrolik, In 1869 the collection<br />

was bought by a commission of the citizens of Amsterdam for Dfl.<br />

12,000.-- and offered to the town to be placed in the Athenaeum Illustre<br />

(Kerbert 1926, p. 4, note 4), It contains human anatomy, patholoy and teratology<br />

and also zoological preparations. The zoological part came in the<br />

possession of "Artis". The other part wi 11 be placed in the Academical Medical<br />

Centre, Amsterdam in 1985. Vrolik wrote a "Catalogue du Musee Vrolik",<br />

which was completed in 1865 by Dusseau. His rich library was sold 16 Jan.<br />

1865, with a list of his works and a biographical note, and again 15-17<br />

April 1868 (in "Artis" library) Arlincourt 1842, II, p. 49 (v. ca. 1837);<br />
