Possessed a collection of birds, which is now in the Natural History Museum<br />

at Maastricht. A second collection consisting of local birds of S,-Limburg<br />

Gravenhage. Visited the School of navigation, Amsterdam and entered the mercantile<br />

navy. In 1.862 he settled at Amsterdam, where he became sub-director<br />

of the zoological garden (he was married to Margaretha Catharina Westermann,<br />

the daughter of its first director) and participating director of the firm<br />

Hegt & Co. at Rangoon. From 1881-1892 he had the station for the culture of<br />

fresh-water fishes "Zwanesprong" at Apeldoorn. He collected many shells and<br />

marine animals for the Zool. Museum Amsterdam, cf. Jutting 1939, p. 177.<br />

1102. NOORDHOEK HEGT, Marinus Johannes Benjamin - 1821 Delden - 1894 Yokohama.<br />

Brother of Johannes Noordhoek Hegt (q.v. ). Captain in the mercantile<br />

navy. Later on merchant in Yokohama.<br />

He collected shells and other marine products. This collection carne in the<br />

Zool. Mus. Amsterdam, cf. Jutting 1939, p. 177.<br />

"Schepen" (Alderman) at Gouda.<br />

He possessed a cabinet of minerals (Argenville 1780, p. 358), that was sold<br />

at 's-Gravenhage in 1765. Vosmaer 1790 (divers naturalia); Scheurleer 1967,<br />

His widow sold in the Molesteeg at Rotterdam on 24 Aug. 1765 several beautiful<br />

shells and creatures from the sea, pictures, etc. (Advertisement in the<br />
