1121. OETS (OUTS), Pieter - 1726 Prov. Zeeland - 1790 Amsterdam. Painter
esp. of portraits, in crayon. During several years he lived at Rotterdam, He
also worked in England, and later was an art-dealer at Amsterdam.
The collection of Oets, together with some other collections, was sold 31
Jan. 1791 at Amsterdam. Among the objects in the catalogue were 266 nrs, of

1124. OLIVIER, Gerrit van - 1759 Dordrecht - 6 Sept. 1827 "Postrust" near
Hazerswoude ( Prov. Z. -Holland). Member of the Committee of the Navy and
other advisory commissions in relation to seafaring.
He possessed a collection of Coleoptera. Together with J.A. Bennet (q.v.) he
composed 3 lists of animals, living in the Netherlands. These lists were published
as prize-winning essays in the "Verhandelingen van de Hollandsche
Maatschappij der Wetenschappen" at Haarlem (Fauna Belgica): 1) XI, 1822, p.
77-440 (about mammals, birds and amphibians); 2) XIII, 182.5, p. 1-222 and
XIV, 1825, p. 1-521 (about fishes and insects); 3) XV, 1826, p. 1-236 (about
worms and molluscs). These articles were crowned with a gold medal by the
"Hollandsche Maatschappij" in 1822, 1824, and 1826 resp. In 1802 Olivier and
Bennet published their translation of J.F. Blumenbach's "Handbuch der Naturgeschichte"
