This town was well-known for the many celbrities that took their doctor's<br />

degree at the University. This University founded 1648, closed 1811, reopened<br />

as Atheneum 1815, closed 1818.<br />

On the site of the former botanical garden in de Academiestraat is the restored<br />

"Anatomiehuisje". So far as known, only one traveller mentioned the<br />

anatomy: Anon, 1787, in: Bernouilli's Sarnrnlung VII, p. 166. Historical objects<br />

Of the university are in the "Veluws Museum van Oudheden", Harderwijk.<br />
