1860 Arnhem. When 15 years old he entered the service of the Dutch navy and
was pensioned off as "Schout bij nacht" (Rear Admiral).
In 1815 he visited the Dutch East Indies for the second time for scientific
exploration. In the Indies he collected insects esp. from Java and the Moluccas
and made drawings of landscapes, plants and insects. On the way home
he was commander of the "Admiraal Evertsen" that was shipwrecked near Mauritius,
his collections and those of C,P,J. Elout (q.v.) and of C.G.C. Reinwardt
(q.v.) were lost. (Cf. Kolon. Tijdschrift II, 1836, p. 243-247). He
settled at Rotterdam as "Equipagemeester" (Master of the crew) and later as
Director of the Navy till 1850, He contributed particularly drawings and
descriptions of the metamorphosis of some 90 Lepidoptera to Sepp' s "Nederlandsche

Utrecht; 1878-1885 President of the County-Court at Utrecht. He was especially
famous by his systematic arrangement of Cramer & Stoll.

1584. VERLOREN VAN THEMAAT, M.C. - 1816-1900 Amersfoort. Brother of Hendrik
Verloren (q.v.).
He possessed a collection of Lepidoptera, containing also specimens from the
collections of C. Dalen (q.v.), J.C.H. van Walcheren (q.v.) and C. van Lennep
(q,v.). In Sept. 1939 the collection (2,626 specimens, 1,089 species)
from House "De Schothorst" at Hoogland, near Amersfoort, was presented to
the "Ned. Heidemaatschappij" by the Director of the "Centraal Bureau voor
het nemen van Veevoederproeven", J.C, Bessem. Horn & Kahle 1935-'37, p. SO:
Lepidoptera from the collection of C. Dalen via A.J. van Eijndhoven in 1861
