1616. VOET, Carel Burchart (or Borchart) - 22 June 1671 Zwolle - 1744 or<br />

1745 Dordrecht. Painter and "Commies ter Recherche" at Dordrecht, father of<br />

Johan Eusebius Voet (q.v.). During a long time he was in the service of Willem<br />

Bentinck, first Earl of Portland (q.v.), cf. B. Dubber & J. Verbeek<br />

1975, in: Bull. Rijksmuseum XXIII, p. 7, 10. He made drawings of several insects<br />

and their metamorphosis. He is one of the founders of the society<br />

"Liefhebbers van Neptunus Cabinet" at Dordrecht (q.v.). Author of "Systematische<br />

naamlijsten der torren en kevers", 2 vols., 1725, with coloured<br />

plates.<br />

He possessed a cabinet of shells, insects, birds, animals in liquor and minerals.<br />
