1402. SERIERE, Guillaume de - 3 Jan. 1788 Naarden - 17 or 19 Sept. 1868 's­
Gravenhage. Wallonian clergyman Zutphen and Deventer (1811-1816), Professor
of history and geography grammar school Zutphen (1816-1821); clergyman Batavia
and Soerabaja in the Dutch East Indies (1821-1831); Resident of Krawang,
Banjoemas and Rembang (1831-1842); Governor of the Moluccas (1842-1845). In
1845 he retired and settled in a country-house near Zwolle, later on at
1 s-Gravenhage.
In the Moluccas he brought together a valuable collection of shells which he
presented to "Artis" in 1847. "His extensive collection contains many fine
sets of marine shells and their variations, mostly in immaculate condition"

1976 Amsterdam. 1915-1916 teacher biology at Rotterdam; 1919-1928 at Leiden;
1925-1928 also "Privat-Dozent" at Leiden University; 1928 teacher at Amsterdam,
Conservator at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek-house at Amsterdam. Van
Seters was very interested in the life and work of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek
(q.v.) and in the mother-of-pearl engravers Bellekin (q.v.).

1404. SIBOGA-EXPEDITION -
H.M.S. "Siboga" explored the Indo-Malayan Archipelago 1899-1900. The collection
of several groups of animals made during the cruise contains very many
species. The collections came in the Zool. Mus. Amsterdam. In 1932 Max Weber
arranged the 188 fascicules published so far in 19 volumes; the total number
of volumes to be published was than estimated at 34 (see:" Resultate ... ").

where he built in 1750 a house that became a museum for his rarities.
