Gravenhage. Wallonian clergyman Zutphen and Deventer (1811-1816), Professor<br />

of history and geography grammar school Zutphen (1816-1821); clergyman Batavia<br />

and Soerabaja in the <strong>Dutch</strong> East Indies (1821-1831); Resident of Krawang,<br />

Banjoemas and Rembang (1831-1842); Governor of the Moluccas (1842-1845). In<br />

1845 he retired and settled in a country-house near Zwolle, later on at<br />

1 s-Gravenhage.<br />

In the Moluccas he brought together a valuable collection of shells which he<br />

presented to "Artis" in 1847. "His extensive collection contains many fine<br />

sets of marine shells and their variations, mostly in immaculate condition"<br />

1976 Amsterdam. 1915-1916 teacher biology at Rotterdam; 1919-1928 at Leiden;<br />

1925-1928 also "Privat-Dozent" at Leiden University; 1928 teacher at Amsterdam,<br />

Conservator at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek-house at Amsterdam. Van<br />

Seters was very interested in the life and work of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek<br />

(q.v.) and in the mother-of-pearl engravers Bellekin (q.v.).<br />

1404. SIBOGA-EXPEDITION -<br />

H.M.S. "Siboga" explored the Indo-Malayan Archipelago 1899-1900. The collection<br />

of several groups of animals made during the cruise contains very many<br />

species. The collections came in the Zool. Mus. Amsterdam. In 1932 Max Weber<br />

arranged the 188 fascicules published so far in 19 volumes; the total number<br />

of volumes to be published was than estimated at 34 (see:" Resultate ... ").<br />
