He possessed a large cabinet, of which several descriptions are known; the
rare "Catalogus musei instructissimi", sale catalogue (Latin and Dutch)

In 1584 he lived at Amsterdam, where he possessed an extensive collection of

Amsterdam. Prof. of logics and metaphysics Franeker 1767; Prof. physics and
mathematics Amsterdam 1785-1819. From 1798-1799 he was in Paris to take part
in conferences to reform weights and measures and to define the metric system.
He was very active in the fields of applied physics and mathematics
(physical instruments, cartography).
He possessed a cabinet of shells, minerals, etc, that was sold 9-12 March
