Stage 2 of the research process was the completion of daily logs (see Section 2c of this chapter), with all<br />

employees in the participating service area offered the chance to take part in this phase of the study. The use of<br />

the daily log phase was designed in conjunction with the PAO to be something that employees may be familiar with<br />

from previous change initiatives, meaning the numbers participating in this phase may be greater than should it<br />

have been a ‘fresh’ initiative. Individuals were asked to answer just four questions at the end of their work day<br />

phrased in a positive manner to follow the AI protocol, aimed at finding out what is working well in the organisation<br />

and why, and the areas which may need improvement.<br />

The final two phases of the AI component were the conducting of interviews and focus groups. Semistructured<br />

interviews (Phase 3, see Section 2d) were conducted with interested employees in order to ascertain<br />

further information on the outcomes of both the survey and log phases. Due to complete anonymity in the log<br />

phase, log results were analysed following completion of the phase and then fed back to individuals at the<br />

beginning of each interview. In this manner individuals were asked to comment further on the results, including<br />

the areas which work well for them in their work day and how these might be implemented into areas which do not
