play an important part in the experience of stress. Therefore the present study utilises methodologies which take<br />

into account both daily hassles and major life events. Indeed the AI methodologies used had been designed to<br />

assess daily hassles, whereas the MSIT takes into account major life events, although it is possible that not all of<br />

the same participants took part in both the qualitative and quantitative phases.<br />

8) Log & Interview Result Synthesis<br />

Synthesised results suggest that when used together, daily logs and semi-structured interviews can provide a<br />

wide-range of convincing outcomes some of which mirror each other whereas other results diverging. From the log<br />

results it was suggested that two predominant areas were of interest and made the biggest positive impact on<br />

individuals’ working lives. These were:<br />

• Peer Support, i.e. positive relationships with colleagues which would help employees to deal with difficult<br />

working situations.<br />

• Work Completion, i.e. a feeling of being productive in the workplace.<br />

As with any other qualitative work a large number of categories were mentioned throughout the log phase,<br />

but many of these were wide-ranging and not as uniform as were peer support and work completion. In a similar<br />

manner, a number of clear and effective categories of data were developed from the interview data. The interview<br />

schedule was informed by the results of the log phase and therefore questions looking at what was working well<br />

involved enquiries as to the impact of peer support and work completion. However, the questions asked were open
