Our view is that all thesethings are necessary to create <strong>change</strong>, including the articulation <strong>of</strong> anattractive vision. Just read the words <strong>of</strong> Martin Luther-King again to feelthe power <strong>of</strong> a well-articulated vision. Other things need to be in place too:the timing has to be right, <strong>and</strong> the vision has to be accepted by followers.The leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>change</strong> has to be courageous <strong>and</strong> self-aware. He or shehas to choose the right action at the right time, <strong>and</strong> to keep a steady eyeon the ball. However, the leader cannot make <strong>change</strong> happen alone. Ateam needs to be in place, with well-thought-out roles, <strong>and</strong> committedpeople who are in for the duration, not just for the kick-<strong>of</strong>f.One thing is certain: the going will not be smooth.180
