Cultural <strong>change</strong>The concept <strong>of</strong> the br<strong>and</strong> wheel was used to define the br<strong>and</strong>. This isencapsulated in Figure 7.4. The br<strong>and</strong> wheel idea, developed by BatesNorth America, is used to define the functional <strong>and</strong> emotional components<strong>of</strong> a br<strong>and</strong>. Bates North America has developed an impressive reputationfor reinvigorating br<strong>and</strong>s. The br<strong>and</strong> wheel is based on variousconcepts that go into creating a br<strong>and</strong> such as essence, values <strong>and</strong> personality.The br<strong>and</strong> essence is heart or spirit <strong>of</strong> the br<strong>and</strong>. The br<strong>and</strong> valuesare about how the br<strong>and</strong> makes a person feel <strong>and</strong> what it says about themif they become associated with the br<strong>and</strong>. The br<strong>and</strong> personality is a way<strong>of</strong> talking about the br<strong>and</strong> as if it were a person, to get to the emotionalcontent <strong>of</strong> the br<strong>and</strong> itself.Out <strong>of</strong> the br<strong>and</strong> wheel came a concise definition <strong>of</strong> the six key br<strong>and</strong>values together with their associated behaviours.
