Disciplines by Opposition<br />

Each of the 5 disciplines of magic is in fundamental<br />

opposition to 2 others. Below the disciplines<br />

are listed by opposition:<br />

Air: This element is opposed to fire and<br />

Earth: This element is opposed to ether and<br />

Ether: This element is opposed to earth and<br />

Fire: This element is opposed to air and<br />

Water: This element is opposed to air and<br />

The opposition of the disciplines affects<br />

casters differently. Hierophant priests of the various<br />

gods are unhindered, since their spells are<br />

granted by their god. Druids, however, can cast from<br />

1 discipline, but not its 2 opposites. For example,<br />

the experience of casting air magic is so different<br />

from fire or water magic, druids are unable and unwilling<br />

to learn it. Sorcerers, like hierophant priests,<br />

are unaffected by the fact that disciplines are polarized.<br />

Mages, however, may choose to specialize in 1<br />

discipline. Such specialization earns the mage the<br />

name of magister. A magister is unable to cast spells<br />

from the disciplines opposite their specialty, but they<br />

also gain a 10% bonus to learn spells. In more general<br />

respects, sorcerers and mages may choose to<br />

focus on 1 or 2 disciplines, but no benefits are gained.<br />

Further explanations of magic will be divided<br />

into 2 sections: spells and magical items.<br />
