Alchemical Liquids, Notes on<br />

Alchemical liquids are unrelated to the Alchemy<br />

skill in Chapter 8: Skills. Alchemical liquids,<br />

even of the same magical effect or name, tend to be<br />

different each time. Therefore, if a particular<br />

spellcaster makes 2 Elixirs of Life, they are likely to<br />

be different in color and odor. Hence, experimenting<br />

with alchemical liquids in attempts to determine<br />

their nature can prove dangerous and is often futile<br />

or misleading.<br />

Warning: Do not mix alchemical liquids, as<br />

the mere contact of the 2 liquids necessitates a roll<br />

on Appendix 3: Random Magical Effects.<br />

Alchemical, Elixirs<br />

Elixirs may be substances capable of transmuting<br />

metals into gold and prolonging life or a cureall.<br />

The imbiber of the elixir experiences magical<br />

effects.<br />

01-25 Elixir of Gold: Whosoever<br />

imbibes this elixir may notice the magical<br />

conversion of 1d12 ounces of metal in immediate<br />

fleshly contact with the imbiber into<br />

gold. According to ancient trollish records,<br />

there once was a king who favored this elixir<br />

named Midas.<br />

26-50 Elixir of Healing Sleep:<br />

Whososever imbibes this elixir is forced to<br />

fall asleep for 1d8 hours. Upon awakening,<br />

the imbiber has recovered all Life Points.<br />

This was the best sleep the imbiber ever experienced.<br />

51-75 Elixir of Life: Whosoever<br />

imbibes this elixir is fully revived, recovering<br />

all Life Points. Regardless of the total<br />

potential number of Life Points of the imbiber,<br />

and regardless of how wounded the<br />

imbiber may be, the imbiber recovers all LP.<br />

Additional Elixirs of Life do not increase<br />

LP beyond normal potential.<br />

76-100 Elixir of Years: Whosoever<br />

imbibes this elixir does not age for 1d20<br />

years.<br />

Alchemical, Oils<br />

Oils are magical liquids that must be thickly<br />

applied to a creature or object to enact the magical<br />

effects. Thoroughly coating the object with the alchemical<br />

oil is usually necessary.<br />

Oftentimes, the entire body must be covered<br />

for the magical oil to function correctly. Anakim<br />

require 15 vials or fluid ounces of oil, bugbears require<br />

8 vials, humans require 5, kobolds only 4 vials,<br />

ogres 25, and trolls 15 vials. It is not fully possible<br />

to apply the oil to oneself; someone else must do it.<br />

Applying the oil thoroughly takes roughly an hour,<br />

2 for an ogre.<br />

01-25 Oil of Armor: Upon applying<br />

this oil to one’s unarmored body, each<br />

vial bestows protection. The entire body<br />

must be covered for it to function correctly.<br />

Once the entire body is covered, CA increases<br />

by 1d10 for 1d4 hours.<br />

26-50 Oil of Lubrication: This oil<br />

provides friction-free lubrication between<br />

any 2 surfaces for a duration of 1d4 hours.<br />

51-75 Oil of Ontendan: Whosoever<br />

has their body entirely covered by this<br />

oil will be able to ignite the oil without being<br />

burned, and will be immune to all fire<br />

while the oil is wet. The oil will dry within<br />

1d4 hours, and the flames, if ignited, will<br />

extinguish as it dries. This oil burns a different<br />

color and intensity depending on its age.<br />

The older the oil, the more brightly it burns<br />

and the longer are the flames. Roll 1d1000<br />

to determine its age in years. The oil will<br />

range from looking like natural fire (age 1<br />

year) to flourescent green (age 1,000).<br />

76-100 Oil of Poison Oak: Upon<br />

applying this oil to one’s body, each vial<br />

seems to have no effect. However, 3 hours<br />

after application, the oil creates itchy welts<br />

everywhere the oil contacts skin. For 4 days,<br />

Initiative suffers a - 20 penalty, Bodily Attractiveness<br />

and Facial Charisma suffer - 30,<br />

and the character is compelled to itch constantly.
