§ A1001 BROOME COUNTY CHA<strong>RT</strong>ER AND CODE § A1003<br />

A<strong>RT</strong>ICLE X<br />

Department of Public Transportation<br />

§ A1001. Department of Public Transportation; Commissioner; appointment;<br />

qualifications. [Amended 1-25-1989 by L.L. No. 4-1989]<br />

There shall be a Department of Public Transportation headed by a Commissioner. The method<br />

of choosing the Commissioner shall be as provided in § C1001 of Article X of the Charter.<br />

The qualifications of the Commissioner of Public Transportation shall be as follows: He shall<br />

have graduated from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or<br />

university with a bachelor's degree in the field of transportation systems or business<br />

administration and have had five years of supervisory or administrative experience in these<br />

fields; graduated from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or<br />

university with a master's degree in the field of transportation systems or business<br />

administration and have had three years of supervisory or administrative experience in these<br />

fields; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.<br />

§ A1002. Powers and duties.<br />

The Commissioner of Public Transportation shall:<br />

(A) Have power to operate and manage a bus transit system, hereinafter referred to as the<br />

"<strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Transit System," for the <strong>County</strong> of <strong>Broome</strong>.<br />

(B) Proceed as effectively as possible in the direction and control of the conduct,<br />

maintenance, extension, repair, care and operation of the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Transit System.<br />

(C) Have charge, supervision and custodial care of all vehicles, buildings and any other real<br />

or personal property, things or matters appurtenant thereto relating to the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />

Transit System.<br />

(D) Have charge of and have the duty of performing other functions concerning the transit<br />

system and other modes of transportation as the <strong>County</strong> Executive and/or the <strong>County</strong><br />

Legislature may from time to time direct.<br />

§ A1003. Reports.<br />

On or before March 1 in each year, the Commissioner of Public Transportation shall make an<br />

annual report for the immediately preceding calendar year, covering generally the work of his<br />

Department. The Commissioner shall make such other reports at such times as may be<br />

required by the <strong>County</strong> Legislature, <strong>County</strong> Executive or other applicable law and the New<br />

York State Department of Transportation. All reports shall be filed with the Clerk of the<br />

<strong>County</strong> Legislature and the <strong>County</strong> Executive.<br />
