§ 187-1. Policy intent.<br />

The intent of this procedure is to provide for the prompt and safe removal of vehicles to<br />

prevent traffic hazards or secondary accidents as a result of such vehicles being on or at the<br />

shoulder of public roadways. This policy shall not supersede any specific orders issued by the<br />

<strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Sheriff through special or general orders of the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Sheriff<br />

addressing specific situations, such as vehicles impounded for criminal investigative purposes.<br />

§ 187-2. <strong>County</strong> towing list.<br />

There shall hereby be established a <strong>County</strong> towing list. The list shall contain the names and<br />

phone numbers of towers with businesses with offices in <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> and surrounding<br />

areas which are able to respond to calls within <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> and who additionally meet all<br />

other requirements set forth below. All towers wishing to be placed on the list shall file a<br />

permit application with the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Office of the Sheriff.<br />

§ 187-3. Priority of calls.<br />

Due to the need for prompt removal of vehicles when a police request is made for a tower, all<br />

such requests shall be directed by the dispatcher to the towing list. The order of names on the<br />

list shall be on a rotating basis.<br />

§ 187-4. Permit applications and additional eligibility requirements.<br />

A. In order to be placed on the towing list, a prospective tower must file a permit<br />

application with the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Office of the Sheriff. The application shall require<br />

the following information:<br />

(1) The name of the owner of the business. If a partnership, corporation or other<br />

business association is involved, the names and addresses of the partners, officers<br />
