A<strong>RT</strong>ICLE I<br />

Acceptable Use of the <strong>County</strong> Network and Online Services<br />

[Adopted 5-21-1998 by Res. No. 202; amended in its entirety 9-16-1998 by Res. No. 403]<br />

§ 240-1. Statement of purpose.<br />

A. The purpose of this article is to delineate acceptable practices when using the county<br />

computer network and online services to assist in job duties. <strong>Broome</strong>-<strong>County</strong>-provided<br />

network and online services access is governed by all applicable laws, rules, regulations,<br />

existing county policies and this article.<br />

B. Generally, activities in compliance with existing county policy and other applicable<br />

regulations will be appropriate. Acceptable use always is ethical, reflects honesty and<br />

shows restraint in the consumption of shared resources. This article elaborates on certain<br />

activities that are directly related to county network and online services. Violations of<br />

this article will result in appropriate disciplinary action.<br />

§ 240-2. Network access.<br />

A. Access to the county network and online services is not a condition of employment, and<br />

the county has the right to discontinue any employee's county network and/or online<br />

services access at any time. All network and online services are to be used exclusively<br />

for work-related purposes. Unless specifically authorized by the Director of Information<br />

Technology, any online services access, other than access provided by the county through<br />

the county network, is prohibited.<br />

B. The following activities are prohibited:<br />

(1) Activities unrelated to the county's mission.<br />

(2) Activities unrelated to official assignments and/or job responsibilities.<br />

(3) Use for any illegal purpose.<br />
