Other <strong>County</strong> Boards, Offices, Institutions and Functions<br />

§ A2401. Board of Elections.<br />

The Board of Elections shall have and exercise all the powers and duties conferred or<br />

imposed upon it by the Election Law or any other applicable law. The appointment of the<br />

members of the Board shall be as provided by the Election Law. The term of office for each<br />

member of this Board shall be for four years.<br />

The Board of Elections shall have the responsibility for the purchase of all supplies and<br />

making of contracts for services required for any election in <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> and for the<br />

operations of its office, subject to the provisions of the Charter and this Code.<br />

§ A2402. Probation Office; Director.<br />

The Probation Office shall be headed by a Director who shall be appointed by the <strong>County</strong><br />

Executive, subject to Legislative confirmation, on the basis of his administrative experience<br />

and his qualifications for the duties of his Office by the appointing authority.<br />

The Probation Director shall have and exercise all the powers and duties now or hereafter<br />

lawfully conferred or imposed upon him by the Charter, this Code, local law, ordinance or<br />

resolution of the <strong>County</strong> Legislature, order or direction of the <strong>County</strong> Executive, as head of a<br />

<strong>County</strong> Probation Department, or any other applicable state law not inconsistent with the<br />

Charter or this Code.<br />

§ A2403. (Reserved) 19<br />

§ A2404. Traffic Safety Board. [Amended 4-4-1991 by L.L. No. 10-1991]<br />

There shall be a Traffic Safety Board consisting of not fewer than 10 nor more than 25<br />

members interested in traffic safety and traffic problems, appointed by the <strong>County</strong> Legislature.<br />

Each member shall be a resident of the <strong>County</strong>, and three of such members shall be a resident<br />

or residents of and be appointed from each one of the cities contained in the <strong>County</strong>, and the<br />

balance of such members shall be appointed from the <strong>County</strong> at large. The terms of office of<br />

such members shall be three years. The members of such Board shall receive no<br />

compensation for services, but shall be entitled to their reasonable and necessary expenses<br />

incurred in the performance of their duties within any appropriation made for such purpose.<br />

The Board is authorized to:<br />

(1) Promote and encourage street and highway traffic safety.<br />

(2) Formulate <strong>County</strong>-wide highway safety programs and coordinate efforts of interested<br />

parties and agencies engaged in traffic safety education.<br />
