§ 206-1. Benefits conferred.<br />

The <strong>County</strong> Legislature hereby agrees to confer the benefits of § 18 of the Public Officers<br />

Law 1 upon the employees of <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> and to be held liable for the costs incurred<br />

under the provisions thereof.<br />

§ 206-2. Definitions.<br />

As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:<br />

EMPLOYEE — Includes any member of a public board or commission, trustee,<br />

commissioner, director, officer, employee, volunteer expressly authorized to participate in a<br />

publicly sponsored volunteer program or any person holding a position by election,<br />

appointment or employment in the service of <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong>, whether or not compensated,<br />

but shall not include an independent contractor. The term "employee" shall include a trustee<br />

or employee of the <strong>Broome</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Library. The term "employee" shall include a<br />

former employee or the estate or judicially appointed personal representative of a former<br />

employee.<br />

§ 206-3. Authority to execute agreements.<br />

The <strong>County</strong> Executive or his duly authorized representative is hereby empowered to execute<br />

any such agreements, documents or papers, approved as to form by the Department of Law, as<br />

may be necessary to implement the intent and purpose of this chapter.<br />

indemnification of county employees in civil actions or proceedings arising out of any alleged act or omission which<br />

occurred or allegedly occurred while the employee was acting within the scope of the employee's public employment<br />

or duties.<br />
