110/316 Bosch Rexroth AG | Tightening Technology 7 Data Services7.2 Ethernet communicationPingDomain Name Server(DNS)FTP transferThe “ping” 1) command is used to test a connection in Ethernet. Here, a data package is sent to a targetaddress and, if the connection was successful, sent back.If a logical participant name is entered, rather than an IP address, the DNS server will first replace theparticipant's name with its IP address and then the data package will be sent. After you have entered an IP address/name, click on the Test key in the Ping section in the window. The test is protocolled in the diagnosis field and the result is output. A ping test error, if using an enteredIP address, is usually caused by the following:– No (electric) connection to Ethernet (check cable).– No participant with the entered IP address within the Ethernet access range (check IP address).– Wrong subnet mask for your domain (see page 112).– Hardware error.DNS server availability and the address processing for a logical participant name can be checked withthis test function:⇒ After you have entered a name, click on the Test button in the Domain Name Server (DNS) window. The following responses are possible:– The computer name 'xxxx' could be processed by the DNS as the numerical IP address'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'.– The computer name 'xxxx' could not be processed by the DNS.– Although the DNS server was found, there is no entry for the name. Check the name or informyour network administrator.– The DNS server 'xxxx' does not respond.– The DNS server, which was input in the Ethernet configuration, was not found. This function checks whether a file can be stored on the entered FTP server. The following requirementsare necessary for this function:– The FTP server is connected to the network.– The FTP server recognizes the user ID (user). The password for this user is stored/authorized on thefile server.– The directory where the file should be stored either exists or can be created (user rights for registered-inuser).After you have entered all the data, click on the Test button in the FTP Transfer section in the window.1) Ping is derived from ping pong: A data package is sent and then returned by the receiver.System 350 | 3 608 878 040/05.2008
