12/316 Bosch Rexroth AG | Tightening Technology 2 Introduction to the Tightening System 3502.1 The Tightening System 3502.1 The Tightening System 3502.2 Definitions2.3 System designThe bolted connection is one of the most important types of connections used in assembly technology. That is why modern and reliable tightening systems are indispensable. Different tightening processesmake it possible to reduce the bolt dimensions and thus save material and decrease weight. In addition, automated tightening processes ensure uniform quality of the bolted connection, which is essentialwith constantly increasing demands on the material and load-bearing capacity. In extreme cases,a loose bolt can be a danger to life and limb. The powerful Tightening System 350 from Rexroth carries out all of the important tightening and monitoringfunctions, e.g. torque, angle of turn, yield point, and tightening monitoring and helps to safely controlthe bolted connection. It allows multi-step and interlinked tightening processes which make it possible toeasily adjust the tightening process. The clear and flexible modular design of the Tightening System 350 guarantees easy and user-friendlymodule installation and an exact adjustment of the tightening system to the task at hand. This modulardesign also means that the system can be expanded simply and quickly to fit changing demands and information. The standard components have been tested at 1 million load cycles to guarantee a high level of dependabilityand system reliability. The modular tightening spindle is connected to the power electronics by just one connector cable and isequipped with torque and angle sensors to constantly monitor the tightening job.The system can be addressed from an external source via numerous interfaces, e.g. via field bus systemssuch as Profibus DP or DeviceNet.Integration of the Tightening System 350 into an entire system is not a complicated process. The operatingsoftware for the Tightening System 350 guarantees clear and convenient programming of all tighteningprocesses and provides numerous diagnosis and test functions.Frequently used terms are explained in chapter “Glossary” (page 9).A tightening system based on the Compact System consists of the CS351, connection cable, andErgoSpin hand-held nutrunner.CS351PLCBS350Programming via laptopor industrial PCFigure 2–1:Overview of a tightening systemSystem 350 | 3 608 878 040/05.2008
