Creating Shared Parameters<br />

In this exercise you learn how to use shared parameters to define additional elements that are usually not<br />

included in the beam schedule when it is created within the project template. Shared parameters can be<br />

added to any family, regardless of category, and are defined and stored in an external file, ensuring consistency<br />

across families and projects. Their values may also be aggregated and reported within Revit Structure<br />

multi-category schedules.<br />

An example of the use of shared parameters is the need to add width and depth information in a concrete<br />

beam schedule. This requires assigning the existing width and depth parameters originally defined as family<br />

parameters to shared parameters in the beam family. The following exercise demonstrates the solution for<br />

this situation and covers the process of setting up shared parameters and adding them to a family.<br />

Training File<br />

■ Click File menu ➤ Open.<br />

■ In the left pane of the Open dialog, click Training Files, and open <strong>Metric</strong>\m_RST_Schedules.rvt.<br />

1 In the Project Browser, under Structural Plans, double-click Ground Level.<br />

NOTE Some beams have been added to this view to better demonstrate the scheduling tool.<br />

2 Select one of the concrete beams as shown.<br />
