Convert group instance to a linked file<br />

14 Select the group, and on the Options Bar, click Link.<br />

15 In the Convert Group to Link dialog, click Use Existing.<br />

When a group is converted to a link, either the selected group can be used to make a new linked<br />

file, or the group instance can be replaced with an existing linked file.<br />

16 In the left pane of the Open dialog, click Training Files, and open Common\c_2 Bedroom<br />

Unit-Alternate.rvt.<br />

17 On the Design Bar, click Modify.<br />

18 In the Project Browser, expand Revit Links.<br />

The 2 Bedroom Unit-Alternate.rvt file is added as a link to the project.<br />

Convert the linked model to a group<br />

19 In the drawing area, select the linked Revit model.<br />

20 On the Options Bar, click Bind.<br />

21 In the Bind Link Options dialog, verify that Attached Details is selected only, and click OK.<br />

22 In the Duplicate Types dialog, click OK.<br />

23 In the confirmation dialog, click Yes to replace the existing Typical Kitchen group with the<br />

alternate Typical Kitchen group.<br />

24 In the message dialog, click Remove Link.<br />

This message indicates that all instances of the linked model will be deleted from the project,<br />

but the linked model file will still be loaded in the project. You can remove the linked file from<br />

the project by clicking Remove Link, or you can remove it at a later time from the Manage Links<br />

dialog.<br />

25 The linked file is converted to a new model group stored in the project, and the link is removed.<br />

26 Close the file with or without saving it.
