Boundary Conditions<br />

In this exercise, you add a boundary condition to your model for use by the analysis and design software.<br />

Training File<br />

■ Click File menu ➤ Open.<br />

■ In the left pane of the Open dialog, click Training Files, and open<br />

<strong>Metric</strong>\m_RST_SAM_Boundary_Conditions.rvt.<br />

Add a point boundary condition to the base of a column<br />

1 In the Project Browser ➤ 3D Views, double-click View 1 - Analytical.<br />

2 Enter ZF.<br />

3 Click View menu ➤ Visibility/Graphics.<br />

4 In the Visibility/Graphic dialog, under Visibility, clear Structural Foundation, click Apply, and<br />

then click OK.<br />

5 In an empty part of the drawing area, right-click, and click Zoom in Region.<br />

6 Draw a zoom box around the columns located on the lower-left side of the structure as shown.<br />

7 On the Modelling tab of the Design Bar, click Boundary Conditions.<br />

8 On the Options Bar, click (Point Boundary Condition), and for State, select Fixed.<br />

9 In an empty part of the drawing area, right-click, and click Zoom in Region.<br />

10 Draw a zoom box around the base of one of the columns.<br />

11 Click the end of the blue line (representing the analytical model of the beam) to place the point<br />

boundary condition.<br />
