Exporting Project Information with ODBC<br />

In this lesson, you learn how to export project information to an ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) -<br />

compliant database.<br />

Exporting Schedule Information to Microsoft Access<br />

In this exercise, you learn how to export project information into a Microsoft ® Access 2000 database. The<br />

process that you use to export the database is similar for any other ODBC-compliant database.<br />

Training File<br />

■ Click File menu ➤ Open.<br />

■ In the left pane of the Open dialog, click Training Files, and open<br />

<strong>Metric</strong>\m_RST_Schedules_Export_Project_Info.rvt.<br />

Export the schedule<br />

1 Click File menu ➤ Export ➤ ODBC Database.<br />

2 In the Select Data Source dialog, click the File Data Source tab.<br />

3 Click New.<br />

4 In the Create New Data Source dialog, select the Microsoft Access driver (*mdb), and click Next.<br />

5 Enter RevitDSN for the name of the DSN, and click Next.<br />

6 Click Finish.<br />

7 In the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog, under Database, click Create.<br />

8 In the New Database dialog, under Database Name, enter Revit_Project.mdb.<br />

9 Under Directories, select a location for the database file, and click OK to create the database.<br />

10 When the confirmation message displays, click OK.<br />

11 In the OBDC Microsoft Access Setup dialog, click OK.<br />

12 Click OK in the remaining dialogs, and then open the database in Microsoft Access.<br />

Revit Structure creates 2 tables: one that lists all of the element instances in a project, and one<br />

that lists all of the element types in a project (see below).<br />

A unique element ID is used to identify exported elements, so that each table of elements includes<br />

an ID column. Elements IDs are also used to establish relationships between elements in different
