Modifying Project and<br />

System Settings<br />

In this tutorial, you learn how to modify your <strong>Autodesk</strong> Revit Structure 2009 working environment. In the first lesson,<br />

you modify the system environment, which is independent of the project settings. In the second lesson, you modify<br />

project settings to control the appearance of the components and subcomponents within that project. Finally, you create<br />

an office template, and set it as your default template.<br />

Modifying System Settings<br />

In this lesson, you learn how to control the system settings within Revit Structure. System settings are local<br />

to each computer and applied to all projects; they are not saved to project or template files.<br />

Modifying General System Options<br />

In this exercise, you modify the settings that control your local Revit Structure working environment. These<br />

settings control the graphics, selection default options, notification preferences, journal cleanup options,<br />

and your username when using worksets.<br />

Set graphics settings<br />

1 Open Revit Structure.<br />

2 Click File menu ➤ Close to close all open projects.<br />

3 Click Settings menu ➤ Options.<br />

4 In the Options dialog, click the Graphics tab.<br />

5 Under Colors, select Invert background color, and click OK.<br />

6 Click File menu ➤ New ➤ Project to open a new Revit Structure project.<br />

7 In the New Project dialog, under Template file, click Browse.<br />

8 In the left pane of the Choose Template dialog, click Training Files, and open<br />

<strong>Metric</strong>\m_Tutorial_Default.rte.<br />

9 In the New Project dialog, click OK.<br />

Notice that the drawing area is black.<br />

10 Click Settings menu ➤ Options.<br />

11 In the Options dialog, click the Graphics tab.<br />
