With multiple overlays operating concurrently, there is the potential for a<br />

database conflict if two or more overlays attempt to modify the same data<br />

structure. Multi-User Login software prevents such conflicts. When a user<br />

requests that an overlay be loaded, the software determines if it could pose a<br />

potential conflict with an overlay that is already executing. If no conflict<br />

exists, the requested overlay is loaded. If a conflict does exist, the system<br />

issues the following message:<br />

OVL429-OVERLAY CONFLICT<br />

The user can try again later, or try to load a different overlay.<br />

Multi-User Login also introduces several user <strong>com</strong>mands. With these<br />

<strong>com</strong>mands, the user has the ability to:<br />

— <strong>com</strong>municate with other users<br />

— determine who is logged into the system<br />

— halt and resume background and midnight routines<br />

— initiate and terminate terminal monitoring<br />

— change printer output assignment<br />

Maintenance displays are located on the faceplate of certain Meridian SL-1<br />

circuit cards. A maintenance display code is a one-, two-, or three-digit<br />

alphanumeric code which can indicate the status of the system and identify<br />

faulty equipment. For a detailed definition of these codes, see the section<br />

titled “HEX” in the System Error Messages NTP.<br />

The system identifies the time that faults are detected. When a diagnostic<br />

message is output, a timestamp is output within 15 minutes. The format is:<br />

TIMxxx hh:mm dd/mm/yy CPU x<br />
