• To fac<strong>il</strong>itate the exchange of information, Europol uses the tool “Info-Ex”, the<br />

application for the secure exchange of o<strong>per</strong>ational information.<br />

• The Liaison Bureaux network at Europol consists of one bureau for each of the<br />

27 eu member states as well as bureaux representing countries and international<br />

organisations with which europol has signed coo<strong>per</strong>ation agreements.<br />

2) crime analysis<br />

• In the field of strategic crime analysis, Europol provides strategic analysis which is<br />

used for strategic and policy p<strong>la</strong>nning. europol produces crime situation reports<br />

(e.g. the eu terrorism situation and trend report or te-sat) and threat assessments<br />

regarding organised crime (the organised Crime threat assessment or oCta).<br />

• Europol also offers o<strong>per</strong>ational crime analysis to support ongoing investigations: The<br />

europol information system (is) provides capab<strong>il</strong>ities for storing, searching, visualising<br />

and analysing information re<strong>la</strong>ted to trans-national crimes. it allows the <strong>la</strong>w enforcement<br />

agencies across europe to col<strong>la</strong>borate efficiently in their investigations. the system<br />

supports automatic detection of possible hits between different investigations and<br />

fac<strong>il</strong>itates the sharing of sensitive information in a secure and reliable way. the analysis<br />

Workf<strong>il</strong>e (aWF) is the means by which europol provides support through intelligence<br />

analysis to investigations carried out by the european union Member states.<br />

3) o<strong>per</strong>ational support<br />

• Europol provides o<strong>per</strong>ational support on the spot upon request of the Member<br />

states.<br />

• However, Europol is not in the possession of any coercive powers.
