rather than under the formula “teacher-pupil”.
“Youth Exchange. Building characters” ( 2008)
this project shows a way to share experience between two countries, thanks to the
help of the following partners involved inside: pro Friendship Foundation – arad, romania
and pro Friendship Foundation – silsden, england; probation service near by arad County
Court; General directorate for Child protection arad; arad County Court; arad City Hall;
arad County Council; alcoa Foundation arad; Bridgend Municipality – Welsh, duke of
edinburgh Foundation – Welsh.
the project was aiming to create a trans-national framework, suitable to allow the
experiences sharing, supported by the representatives from Welsh and romania, able to
provide some positive experiences in order to build up the character of some juveniles from
both these countries. through „positive experience” we understand some community
activities and some experiences valuable into the personal development’s process. We
strongly believe that “a positive experience is able to model the character of a juvenile
including even a juvenile offender, a juvenile victim or a juvenile who is confronted with
some psycho-social difficulties”. respecting this belief, the objectives of this project were:
- to cooperate over the geographical, historical or linguistic borders in order to enlarge
the juvenile’s self-expressing ways:
- to enlarge the informational and cultural universe of the romanian and foreign
juveniles, because, during a day of this project, the juveniles were requested to present to
the others some particular sides of their born places (various lands, personages, legends,
stories);
- to involve juvenile into the decisional process, because, during many days of this
project, juveniles are requested to participate at some meetings with romanian and foreign
official representatives, in order to determine them to support this kind of youth exchange;
- to develop some common responsibilities and some skills to work together as a
team, because, some days during this project, juveniles were requested to perform unpaid
work on the benefit of community (parks, public spaces, centres for oldiers);
- to determine juveniles to be awarded about the value of freedom (it is about both
freedom of movement and freedom of opinion), because one day during this project was
used in order to visit a penitentiary, to share impressions with some juvenile prisoners and
to participate on a criminal trial where a juvenile is accused for an offence;
- to develop interpersonal relationship, empathy skills and altruism, because some
days of this project, juveniles were organized in some mixed teams (romanian and Welsh)
who performed some activities together children with physical or mental disabilities;
the target groups of this project are referring to 20 juveniles 15-25 years old, 10 –
from each country, making part from the following categories: (1) From romanian part:
juvenile offenders – clients of arad probation service near by arad County Court (6 boys)
and juveniles with psycho-social difficulties – clients of General directorate of Child protection
arad (4 girls). the reason for why we select juveniles from these institutions is linked
