7.3 The Observations
7.3 The Observations
The three measurement types supported by the current version of program GPSEST are:
• GNSS phase observations,
• GNSS code (pseudorange) observations, and
• SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging) range observations.
Code and phase observations may be processed together, e.g., for a precise time transfer
solution (see Chapter 14 for more details). It is even possible to process linear combinations
between code and phase observations in order to have access to the Melbourne-Wübbena linear
combination. The term GNSS indicates that the processing of GPS as well as GLONASS
observations is equally well possible, also together. Observations may stem from GPS-only,
GLONASS-only, and GPS-GLONASS-combined receivers. For details on processing of SLR
we refer to Section 7.7.2.
GNSS data usually stem from static ground-based receivers. The program GPSEST in the
Bernese GPS Software Version 5.0 – in contrary to the previous version – is fully capable
to process kinematic data from roving receivers, see Chapter 10. Even data from spaceborne
receivers may be processed. For details we refer to Section 7.7.1.
The user may select the observations to be processed by requesting the observation type,
the differencing level, the frequency or linear combination thereof, a minimum cutoff angle,
a sampling interval, and a time window, see panel “GPSEST 3.1: General Options 1” and
Figure 7.1. For special applications observations acquired at day-time or during eclipses
may be excluded with option “Special data selection”.
