24. The Step from Version 4.2 to Version 5.0
• RXOBV3: to check the RINEX header information and to exclude observations
from processing (Sections 1, 2, 3, 5 of the file are used),
• CHGHED: to update the header of the binary Bernese observation files (Sections
1,2),
• ADDNEQ2: to update the station information in the normal equation files, for
parameter pre-elimination, and constraining (Sections 1 to 4), and
• CODSPP, MAUPRP, GPSEST, GPSSIM: to identify spaceborne receivers (Section
5).
To have one file for all these steps helps to maintain a campaign, especially in the case
of a reprocessing of archived data – independently of whether you start on RINEX,
Bernese observation file, or normal equation level.
Finally, the station information file in Version 5.0 is a compilation of the station
problem file and the RINEX translation tables of the Version 4.2 . There are two
independent conversion tools:
• STAO2N: to convert a station problem file (”Menu>Conversion>Version 4.2 to 5.0>Station
information (old to new format)”).
• TBLO2N: to convert old RINEX translation tables (”Menu>Conversion>Version 4.2 to
5.0>Translation tables to station information files”).
In both cases the new station information file is not a one-to-one translation of the
old files. The programs can only provide a skeleton of the new station information file.
The online help of the two programs contains more information on the limitations of
the converters.
Please check – and if necessary merge or adapt – the resulting station information
file(s) carefully before using it. You can inspect the file with a simple text editor or
using ”Menu>Campaign>Edit station files>Station information”.
24.2.4 The General File Directory ${X}/GEN
All general files which are necessary for the analysis are distributed with the Bernese GPS
Software, Version 5.0 . Therefore, the only reason to copy general files from Version 4.2 to
Version 5.0 is that you have added individual entries in one of these files:
• Antenna phase center pattern file: The format of this file has been changed with
Version 5.0 . Now it contains only antenna names and antenna numbers to address
an entry (no receiver name anymore). The old file format can still be handled in
Version 5.0 but in Version 5.0 the file must contain entries for the satellite antennas,
too (even if they are zero for a relative PCV-model).
• TheDATUM.-file did not change. It may be copied from Version 4.2 if you have specified
individual ellipsoids. Do not forget to keep the latest realizations of the ITRF (e.g.,
ITRF2000, ITRF2005, respectively IGS00, IGb00 or IGS05).
• The RECEIVER.-file is not compatible. You have to add your individual receiver types
manually to the file provided with the software in ${X}/GEN.
• The SATELLIT.-file is not compatible. The time windows in this file are now used to
identify the correct satellite information record which allows to keep the constellation
history in one file.
