Fortran 90 is now the standard programming language for the Bernese GPS Software and all newly developed programs are written in Fortran 90. Those users who would like to make changes in the programs have to look at the following aspects: (1) maximum dimensions and (2) recompilation of particular programs. Page 472 AIUB
21.4.1 Maximum Dimensions 21.4 Programming Standards and Conventions Although the memory of a number of arrays is allocated dynamically still many dimensions are predefined in module files. Most of the main programs have the following line in the declaration part: USE m maxdim, ONLY: max... The module file ${I}/M MAXDIM.f90 (Figure 21.2) can be found in the include directory ${C}/INC/FOR. Three memory models containing maximum dimensions are defined in this file (SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE). They are distinguished by the preprocessor commands #ifdef and #endif. On UNIX platforms the appropriate model is selected by yourself for your computer platform during the installation of the Bernese GPS Software. The model you are using on your platform is saved in the variable MEMSIZE in the file ${X}/EXE/LOADGPS.setvar. To increase a specific parameter (e.g., MAXSTA), you may change the corresponding entry (e.g., change MAXSTA=350 to MAXSTA=400 for memory model LARGE). For Windows platforms the MEDIUM memory model is installed by default. Three zip archives containing all executables of the Fortran programs compiled with the SMALL, MEDIUM, and LARGE, respectively, are available on the distribution CD. Simply extract the files to the %XG% directory. Adapt the memory model specified in %X%\EXE\LOADGPS.setvar accordingly. It is recommended to recompile the entire source code by running the COMPLINK command if you have changed one of the maximum dimensions in ${I}/M MAXDIM.f90. Problems related to the change of a maximum dimension parameter may arise if the size of the computer memory is insufficient to allow for the increased program size. This might happen if “memory-critical” parameters are changed such as the parameters MAXPAR, MAXSAS, MAXFLS, MAXSNG in program GPSEST. The increased program size may also increase the program run-time considerably, if the operating system starts swapping in and out parts of the memory. 21.4.2 Recompilation of Particular Programs A set of scripts is provided in the ${X}/EXE directory for the compilation and linking of programs and routines. For the names and the use of these scripts, we refer to the chapter on the installation of the Bernese GPS Software on the different platforms (see Chapter 23).
