23. Installation Guide 23.1.3.2 Installation of User Environment Area Start installation by double click on GPSUSER.EXE. This setup wizard will allow you to select the destination directory for the user environment area (...\GPSUSER). This is where your user specific files reside. It is not necessary to install ...\GPSUSER as a subdirectory of ...\BERN50. The installation redefines the user specific environment variable%U%, which has been initially set by the BSW50.EXE-installer. The user area consists of: %U%\PAN program specific input options (initially a copy of %X%\PAN) %U%\OUT output directory for campaign-independent output files %U%\OPT your option sets (initially a copy of %X%\OPT, containing the option directory for the EXAMPLE campaign) %U%\PCF directory of user specific Process Control Files (PCF) for the BPE (initially a copy of %X%\PCF for the EXAMPLE BPEs) %U%\SCRIPT contains the user specific scripts necessary for the PCF’s (initially a copy of %X%\USERSCPT, for the EXAMPLE BPEs) %U%\WORK user specific files generated during interactive work After successful installation, the shortcut to the folder GPSUSER containing the user area will appear on your desktop. 23.1.3.3 Installation of Campaign Directory Tree Start the installation by double click on GPSDATA.EXE. This wizard will allow you to select the destination directory for the Bernese campaign area (...\GPSDATA). This is the place where campaigns (data and results) are located. As this area can take up a lot of disk space, be sure to install it on a suitable disk/partition. It is not necessary to install GPSDATA as a subdirectory of BERN50. The environment variable %P% is defined pointing to this location. Initially, it will only contain the %P%\EXAMPLE-campaign, containing all Version 5.0 example data files: %P%\EXAMPLE\ATM location of campaign specific atmosphere files (e.g., ION, TRP), %P%\EXAMPLE\BPE area for output from BPE runs %P%\EXAMPLE\GEN a copy of some general files, with which the results in this campaign have been produced. For verification purposes you can copy these files to %X%\GEN. This is not a required campaign subdirectory. %P%\EXAMPLE\OBS location of (Bernese) observation files %P%\EXAMPLE\ORB location of orbit related files (orbit files, ERP-files, satellite clock files, DCB, etc.) %P%\EXAMPLE\ORX original RINEX files %P%\EXAMPLE\OUT output files %P%\EXAMPLE\RAW RINEX files ready to import into the processing Page 556 AIUB

We do not recommend to use the Bernese GPS Software Version 5.0 without having processed the provided example campaigns to verify the installation (see Section 20.3). Note however, that you cannot simply copy Version 4.2 campaigns into Version 5.0 (see Chapter 24). 23.1.3.4 Finishing Installation Users of Windows versions other than Windows 95, 98, 98SE can now log out and back in, so that the new environment variables are active. Bernese GPS Software, Version 5.0 is now ready to run. You can skip the next section. If you are using Windows 9x, the following steps need to be done in order to complete the installation. 23.1.3.5 Final Installation Steps on Windows 9x Systems Because environment variables under Windows 9x systems are not defined in the registry, but via AUTOEXEC.BAT at boot time, a mechanism to set the Bernese environment variables via batch files is available: Run the Perl script win9Xadd.pl from the SETUP-subdirectory of your installation CD. It scans the entire computer for the directories BERN50, GPSUSER, and GPSDATA, and writes a batch file C:\BSW50env.bat, which contains the environment definitions according to your installation choices. To speed up the processing you may add a list of drives (or even directories) to the script as parameters: F:\SETUP> perl bsw9Xadd.pl "D: E:\GPSDATA" The result is displayed and further actions are described on the screen.
