22.7.8 Earth Rotation Parameters or Pole Coordinates in Bernese Format
Type: ASCII
Directory: Campaign-specific directory ORB.
Extension: ERP
Content: Pole coordinates, UT1-UTC, UTC-GPS, nutation offsets.
Created by: Download from our anonymous account C04 yyyy.ERP in Bernese ERP format
or download C04 pole, rapid pole, or IGS pole from different places (see
Section 4.12) and use POLUPD (”Menu>Orbits/EOP>Handle EOP files>Convert IERS to
Bernese format”) to transform to Bernese ERP format (currently 13 different
pole file formats are supported). The pole file may also be created as a result
of a parameter estimation using programs GPSEST (”Menu>Processing>Parameter
estimation”) or ADDNEQ2 (”Menu>Processing>Normal equation stacking”).
Used by: All orbit programs and all processing programs.
Example: Figure 22.24 and ${X}/DOC/EXAMPLE.ERP.
ERP files are input files for most of the programs but they may also be created as output files
from parameter estimation using GPSEST or ADDNEQ2. In Version 5.0 Nutation models
IAU80 and IAU2000 and subdaily Earth rotation model IERS2000 and RAY 96 are available.
Always use the same pole file together with one and the same orbit file (standard orbit or
tabular).
The pole file is accessed by the subroutine ${LG}/GETPOL.f. It is not important that the
pole positions are given at equidistant time intervals. ${LG}/GETPOL.f checks, however, for
each request that the spacing between the two data points used for interpolation is smaller
than 10 days. The table values are linearly interpolated and a warning is given if a leap
second occurred in the interpolation interval.
