23.2 Installation Guide for UNIX Platforms
The installation procedure will ask you for the name and version of the operating system
and Fortran compiler (see the list above). If you have a compiler or operating system which
is not listed above please consult Section 23.2.6.
The location of the Perl-interpreter has to be defined during the installation of the software.
It is expected that the variable ${QTDIR} is set correctly to indicate the location of the QTlibrary
(version 3.0.7) before the installation is started (e.g.,set QTDIR="/usr/local/qt").
If you use another version of the QT-library for another application the variable ${QTDIR}
has probably a different value. Redefine the variable at the command line directly before
starting the installation script to the location of version 3.0.7 of the QT-library. The Bernese
menu will find the correct version of the QT-library after the installation in any case even
if the ${QTDIR}-variable points again to another version.
23.2.3 Extracting the Archives
Now you can start the installation. Copy the installation files to an installation directory
(e.g., ${HOME}/INST). Run the installation script:
A line like
> sh setup.sh
> Input the Installation Directory [ /home/bern50/BERN50 ] :
appears and you are asked for the directory where the software should be installed. Either
you accept the proposed default directory (type ) or write your choice to the
command line. You have to confirm your selection or the default directory.
After the extraction of the archive-files you will be asked for the path to Perl:
> Perl program used [ /usr/local/bin/perl ] :
The default path is the location your system returns when you type which perl. Normally
you can confirm the proposed path except if you have different Perl installations on your
system and the proposed path is not the correct one. The path to the Perl interpreter will
be adapted in all scripts of the Bernese GPS Software which use Perl.
