The timber resources of the State Forests continue to increase. They reached 1.6
billion m 3 of merchantable timber over bark in 2003. Including the resources in private
or local authority hands, the overall reserve (standing volume) in Poland’s forests
is an estimated 1.9 billion m 3 of merchantable timber over bark. The amount of timber
harvested in relation to the increase in volume in forests is still very low, amounting
to approximately 50 percent of annual volume increment growth of the standing
timber resources (Figure 3).
