1 In spite of very large differences between the rules for flexural-torsional buckling in the
various design codes, it is possible to express the associated checking formulas for all
materials in a unified manner.
2 Design codes for structural stability that do not include a well-organized calculation of
the 2nd order effects should be prohibited.
3 Lateral stability calculations using the Dutch design code of timber structures can yield
unsafe results for relatively wide structural members.
4 The more a structure's critical load exceeds its real load, the more it is permissible to
use less exact structural design calculations.
5 Developing rules of thumb increases insight and their use saves time in structural
design.
6 It is recommended that results of calculations be presented visually.
7 What today is considered to cultural heritage was not intended as a source of historical
information originally; it has become so by itself.
8 Cultural hertiage cannot be replaced once destroyed, it is necessary to cherish it.
9 Good acoustics for congregational singing in churches depends primarily on the height
of the hall.
10 Organ pipes resemble mankind in a democratic society. At a change of temperature the
minority of tongues has to agree with the majority of lips.
11 Public speaking has become more common since the invention of the mobile telephone.
These propositions are considered to be both opposable and defensible and have been approved as
such by the supervisors,
