270 SUPPLEMENT TO THE CYPRUS GAZETTE, 17TH APRIL, 1936.
Objects and Reasons.
This Bill consolidates and amends the law relating to
immigration. It is for the greater part based upon legislation
in force in other Colonies.

The following points
Clausc 6 (h).—This is designed to prevent the immigration
of Communists.
('lan-^i 6 (t).—This will prevent certain deportees
returnmg to the Colony even Allien the Defence (Certain
British Possessions) Order in Council, 1928, is withdrawn.
Clause 8 (3).—To enable Conventions or reciprocal
arrangements entered into bj^ His Majesty with
States to be implemented.

CJau.^es 20 and 21.—These Clauses are designed primarily
to deal with cabaret proprietors who bring artistes into
the Coloiw from abroad. These artistes, after fulfilling
a .sliort engagement, not infrequently
destitute.

Clause 22.—Enables a deposit to be caUed for where the
immigrant is one Mho, it is considered, may become a
charge upon public funds.
Clause 27.—This clause will enable a search to be made
M here the immigrant is suspected of being in possession
of seditious or Communistic Uterature.
Clause 31.—The object of this clause is to enable the
Government to impose restrictions and limitations upon
the immigration of certain classes of aUens or to prohibit
their entr^' altogether.
